Evaluation of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage

In the spring of 2017, UNESCO evaluated the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage’s capabilities and achievements since its establishment six years ago on 5 February 2010 (it came into force on 23 December 2011), in accordance to the World Heritage Centre (WHC) requirements.
The evaluation was presented to the UNESCO Executive Committee, and it was concluded that ARC-WH has contributed to UNESCO’s Strategic Objective and Comprehensive Strategy for the Category 2 Institutes and Centres of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage. The Centre has played a key role in the region and has assisted Arab States in the conservation of cultural and natural heritage, and in the implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
A new agreement between UNESCO and the Kingdom of Bahrain was signed, extending ARC-WH’s mandate for another six years.
